Sen. Claire McCaskill had a busy day planned for Sunday. It was her husband’s birthday, so she was preparing all of his favorite foods, including black bean nachos, brats with sauerkraut and onions and her own special guacamole.

We know all this because the Democrat from Missouri is one of a growing number of members of Congress using Twitter to communicate with constituents and anyone, really. She sent out Tweets (maximum 140 character messages) to her Followers all day.

We know, for instance, that she felt funny watching familiar Kurt Warner, long the Rams quarterback in St. Louis, play for the Arizona Cardinals.

(BTW, we had an item a little while ago here on the Cardinals’ amazing comeback.)

But here’s something else she Tweeted, her opinion of Arizona Cardinals Bill Bidwell -- ‘yuk.’

Bidwell, football fans may remember, is the aging latest descendant in a long line of Bidwells who’ve owned the team that once played on Chicago’s South Side. He moved the long-suffering NFL Cards away from St. Louis down into the Sunbelt, thus earning McCaskill’s long-running scorn.

Still, such Congressional candor is refreshing. You can sign up for Twitter and alerts from The Ticket by going here. You’ll find McCaskill’s Tweets here. And the main congressional Twitter page is here.
