Man is arrested on suspicion of twice evading CHP in pursuit

The California Highway Patrol took a man into custody Friday morning on suspicion of leading the CHP on a chase from south Los Angeles County into Orange County.
The man, who was not immediately identified and appeared to be driving a Honda CRV, allegedly evaded officers twice before he was boxed in by their vehicles in Orange.
The officers quickly surrounded his vehicle with their guns drawn, while one officer smashed out the drivers’ side window and opened the door. Another deputy held a K-9 unit at bay near the van’s rear tire.
Officers dragged the man out and forced him to sprawl on the ground. The man appeared to be wearing a striped button-down shirt and tie.
It was their third attempt to stop him. Twice before, three patrol cars attempted to box the man in -- only to have him stop briefly before driving through their cars.
The pursuit started at 11:03 a.m. in Whittier.
CHP officers were stopping traffic at the intersection of Lambert Road and Scott Avenue as they investigated a traffic crash there and the suspect ignored a deputy’s instructions to stop, said CHP officer Ming Hsu.
The pursuit lasted about an hour.
The driver stayed on surface streets in Los Angeles County and appeared to do so in Orange County as well. He will be booked on suspicion of evading police, among other possible charges, Hsu said.
