Three-alarm fire rips through high school cafeteria in El Monte

Firefighters were battling a three-alarm flame tearing through a high school cafeteria in El Monte on Monday morning.

The fire was reported around 2:30 a.m. at Mountain View High School, located at 2900 Parkway Dr., KTLA reported. Crews reported a partial collapse of the building, and worked to keep flames from spreading to adjacent structures.

Firefighters believe the fire began in an attic area, Los Angeles County Fire Department spokesman Tony Imbrenda told the television station, but the cause of the blaze was not yet known.

School was not in session on Monday because of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
