Gunman fires at off-duty sheriff’s deputy’s car in Altadena

Authorities said they are investigating a car-to-car shooting in Altadena early Saturday in which a gunman fired at the car of an off-duty Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy.

No one was injured in the shooting,which occurred about 3:40 a.m. near Harriet Street and Lincoln Avenue, according to Sgt. Cynthia Gonzalez of the sheriff’s Altadena station. She declined to identify the deputy or the other person in his car, his brother.

A passenger in a dark-colored Lexus fired at the deputy’s personal car with a handgun three times and struck it once, authorities said. The Lexus then sped off and has not been located.

Gonzaelz said she did not know whether the deputy had faced any work-related threats of retaliation and said that the department would investigate the matter.
