Toy drive Saturday to replace stolen Christmas gifts

A nonprofit that gives toys to needy children has scheduled a toy drive Saturday to replace some of the 200 bags of Christmas gifts stolen from its director’s garage.
An Open Door will collect toys and gift cards until noon at Angeles Mesa Auditorium, 3751 W. 54th St. in Los Angeles. The event is a last-ditch effort to round up donations before the group’s annual ‘Jingle Bash,’ where the toys are scheduled to be distributed.
The toys, donations from the California Highway Patrol and Toys for Tots, were stolen between midnight on Wednesday and 7 p.m. Thursday. The Grinch-like theft was reported to the sheriff’s station in Marina del Rey.
‘We’ve been running this event for 10 years and every single year we put them in the garage and we never had this happen before,’ said Aaron Morrison, spokesman for An Open Door.
The group’s director, Makeda Murray, posted a sign outside her garage Thursday: ‘Attention thieves, God is watching you and so am I. Repent and return my stuff. May God have mercy on your souls.’
