Rick Springfield‘s attorney entered a not guilty plea on the singer’s behalf Tuesday in connection with Springfield’s recent arrest on suspicion of DUI.

The ‘Jessie’s Girl’ singer did not attend the hearing in Malibu, a spokeswoman for the L.A. County district attorney’s office said.

Springfield was pulled over on Pacific Coast Highway near Trancas Canyon Road around 8 p.m. May 1 and registered a 0.10% blood alcohol level on a breathalyzer, police said. Earlier that day he’d appeared at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books on the USC campus.

A report came out later alleging the 61-year-old, who’d been driving his 1963 Corvette and was described by police as ‘belligerent,’ had threatened to kill a deputy and his family if the $200,000 Sting Ray were towed.

Springfield was charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence.

He’s due back in court Aug. 15.
