Rip Torn pleads not guilty to criminal trespass, gun charges
Rip Torn entered a not guilty plea Tuesday in a Connecticut court on charges related to a Jan. 29 arrest for allegedly breaking into a Salisbury, Conn., bank branch, thinking it was his home.
The "Men in Black" actor, who won an Emmy for "The Larry Sanders Show," is charged with criminal trespass, carrying a gun without a permit, carrying a gun while intoxicated, burglary and criminal mischief.
Torn, who police said was carrying a loaded gun at the time, took off his boots and hat and placed them by the door of the bank branch before entering. A window on the bank had been broken.
Torn's home is indeed near the bank, but ...
Torn, who has struggled for years with alcohol problems, went into rehab Feb. 2 after making bail; he's since transferred to an outpatient program, his attorney said Tuesday in court.
Torn will remain free on $100,000 bond; his next court appearance is set for April 27.
