After Vontaze Burfict orally committed to USC back in late February, I figured that likely would be the last we’d hear about him for a while. Turns out, I was wrong. Way off base, in fact. The 6-foot-2, 235-pound senior linebacker from Corona Centennial is making headlines again.

Apparently, Burfict isn’t as high on the Trojans as he once was. According to these quotes, he’s looking at programs such as Arizona State, Colorado and Miami as possible future destinations. UCLA appears to be in the mix as well, which will not go over well with fans across town.

Burfict’s second thoughts come as somewhat of a surprise, in my humble opinion. USC, after all, has assembled a solid 2009 recruiting class, maybe one of the best in the nation, headlined by Mater Dei’s Matt Barkley, Cathedral’s Randall Carroll and St. Bonaventure’s Patrick Hall.

Suppose I should also mention that Narbonne’s Byron Moore, Compton’s Chris Metcalf and James Boyd from Jordan are on board already. Losing Burfict would be one tough blow, even for USC, so my guess is Pete Carroll & Co. are going to do everything in their power to keep him around.
