OK, so the big-catch left-hander of the free-agent market, CC Sabathia, went for the money and will be a New York Yankee.

Big surprise.

The Dodgers should go for an even bigger left-hander. Well, taller anyway.

Randy Johnson is still out there, and the ‘Big Unit’ has always enjoyed huge success pitching at Dodger Stadium.

It’s a fit several ways. The Dodgers have been burned by long-term deals, and Johnson would probably require just a one-year contract -- though a lucrative one.

The club also needs a veteran top-of-the-rotation starter to fill the voids left by free agents Brad Penny and Derek Lowe, who look as if they’ll be pitching elsewhere next season.

For the 45-year-old Johnson, it’s a chance to come back home -- he played at USC -- and to pitch at the top of the rotation for a playoff contender.

The Dodgers have a young left-hander, Clayton Kershaw, who might benefit from watching Johnson work. One possible holdup: Johnson is said to be a bit of a grouch around the clubhouse. Then again, there’s a void there, too, with Jeff Kent leaving.
