Randy Travis and wife-manager Elizabeth divorce
The two met 34 years ago when he won a talent show at a North Carolina club she was managing that was owned by her first husband; she took an interest in Travis' career, eventually becoming his manager, leaving her husband and moving with the singer to Nashville in the early 1980s. Then known as "Lib" Hatcher, Elizabeth married Randy in a private ceremony in 1991. The multiple-Grammy winner, who according to CMT dropped out of high school and struggled with alcohol, drugs and petty crime before crossing paths with his future wife, became a born-again Christian in the early 1990s as well.
Papers making the split final -- declaring that a "state of incompatibility exists between the two parties" -- were filed Thursday in New Mexico, a rep confirmed. The couple said in an earlier statement that they had "parted ways," and asked for privacy.
