George Michael wafts off to jail for 2nd marijuana DUI [poll]
George Michael has been sent to jail. And when he gets out, he can't drive for five years.
The singer, who in late August pleaded guilty to driving under the influence and possession of marijuana, was sentenced in London on Tuesday to eight weeks in jail and a fine of almost $2,000. He'll serve four weeks behind bars, then four on parole, the Associated Press reports.
"It does not appear that you took proper steps to deal with what is clearly an addiction to cannabis," the judge said. "That's a mistake which puts you and, on this occasion, the public at risk."
Michael, whose lawyer said he felt "profound shame and horror" over the incident, had been ...
On July 6, the Grammy winner nailed a Snappy Snaps photo-finishing shop with his Range Rover, then got out of his car and waited for police to arrive.
Too bad he wasn't tooling around in Los Angeles instead of London -- for a while there it was almost easier to crash into a medical marijuana shop than a photo-finishing place, though it has been getting harder lately.
Not to mention, in L.A. an eight-week jail sentence could be served in a matter of days.

I don't understand what his problem is. I've been a fan for over 20 years and I don't understand his decision making process at all. He should just be making music and touring but he chooses to do this with his time instead. Maybe he needs the time in jail.

"...addiction to cannabis..." Ridiculous. They're even more backwards on this issue than the U.S.
Guess I'll never be moving to London.

"...addiction to cannabis..."
What a falsity! He was on SEDATIVES! When will representatives get behind the reality that cannabis is a good alternative to the oil oligopolies? Go ahead, England, and present yourself as a holy non-marijuana smoking entity. You do that.
I believe in burning a big fatty. I prefer a clean 100% mj spliff, but if a swisher comes my way, I won't deny (the tabacco flavor mixed with the mj is sublime). Oh, and tell your queen hello or whatever.
My main point is, is that you can't get addicted to marijuana. Any addict knows that, and you [english press] only exacerbate the issue.
Legalise it.
