PREACH IT! Who’ll be up next on ‘American Idol’ -- after the break? (The break with Simon Cowell, that is.)

Whether Howard Stern really is joining the increasingly tired ‘American Idol’ franchise has been the source of much speculation -- and self-important debunking -- in recent days, but it isn’t really the point.

Simon Cowell is leaving ‘American Idol,’ and we need a new unpleasant person. Nothing would give us greater joy than listing famous people we don’t like as possible replacement.

We’re going to do that right now.

But we won’t stop there. In our photo gallery of fine candidates (click the picture to launch it), we’ve also tossed in a few veterans who may not be obnoxious, but certainly would have something interesting to say at that judges’ table.
