After lobbying by Britain’s Prince William and Prime Minister David Cameron, among others, members of England’s national soccer team will be allowed to wear black armbands displaying a poppy symbol during their friendly match with Spain on Saturday. FIFA, the organization that governs international soccer, had originally balked at the idea because of its rules banning symbols on shirts, but public sentiment about Remembrance Day, originally to honor veterans of World War I, prevailed. Barneys New York began its 12 Days of Gaga run-up on Wednesday, leading up to the day when it will reveal its Gaga’s Workshop for the holidays, as we wrote about in August. During this period, daily limited-edition Gaga goodies will be available on the store’s micro-site: gagasworkshop.com. On the day the workshop opens (Nov. 21 at 11:59 p.m.), customers will find that the entrance to the department store’s Madison Avenue flagship has been gussied up to ‘create the illusion of walking into the mouth of a giant monster-like Lady Gaga,’ according to a news release. Inside, the entire fifth floor will have been converted into eight boutiques, designed and curated by Lady Gaga, Nicola Formichetti (who helps style the lady and is creative director for Mugler), and Eli Sudbrack and Christophe Hamaide Pierson of assume vivid astro focus (avaf), all in collaboration with Barneys’ creative director Dennis Freedman. The strapless white dress Amy Winehouse wore on the European cover of her ‘Back to Black’ album is to be sold at an auction Nov. 29, in hopes of fetching around $15,000 for the Amy Winehouse Foundation charity set up by her parents after her death in July. [Telegraph]
