Images from Aleppo, Syria, show bomb damage [Video]

February 10, 2012 |  9:31 am

In the Guardian video above, Syrian state television shows shattered concrete and bloodstains after  bombings struck security buildings Friday in Aleppo, a Syrian commercial hub.

Syrian media has raised the death toll in the blasts to 29, the Associated Press reported.

Aleppo has been considered a stronghold of support for President Bashar Assad, who faces an uprising that has grown increasingly bloody and protracted. State media blamed Friday's attacks on armed rebels. The opposition said it wasn't responsible for the bombing.

The commercial hub is a new front in the violence that has wracked Syria. Just two days ago, a Times  correspondent wrote: "Aleppo has escaped much of the mayhem that has engulfed areas where wide-scale dissent has been violently stifled by government forces." Much of the violence has erupted in Homs, where opposition groups say hundreds have been killed by shelling and snipers in recent days.
