Barack Obama and his mother

Just out: An unanticipated fallout from the presidential election last November of Barack Obama:

There are a whole lot more Baracks around this country. And more arriving every day.

Our colleague, whose first name is Richard and last name is Fausset, has a story appearing on this site shortly explaining how, according to the Social Security Administration’s tracking of popular American baby names, Barack rocketed in parental popularity from No. 12,535 in 2007 to No. 2,409 last year.

And we’re only -- what? -- 109 days into his administration. The president’s middle name -- Hussein -- remains unpopular in the United States.

Barack is still not up there with Chris, Charlie and even Spencer among boy’s names. (Jacob remains No. 1 for boys followed by Michael and Ethan. And Emma nudged Emily for No. 1 girls.)

But Barack’s definitely on the rise. And so, as it happens, is the unemployment rate. Fausset’s story is here.
