Opinion: Obama news conference: Wash your hands!

In his third White House news conference, President Obama did not break news, did not say anything (that we detected) that he has not said many times before.
He also did not get testy. If you recall, he showed a little pique in his second newsconference when a reporter pressed the president on why he didn’t express outrage earlier on the AIG mess. That’s when Obama replied: “It took a couple of days because I like to know what I’m talking about before I speak.” Ouch.
At least twice in this news conference, though, the commander in chief reminded us of our mothers. He offered sensible advice on swine flu. Wash your hands, cover your mouth when you cough, and keep the kids home if they’re sick. (We were waiting for him to remind us to say “thank you.”)
And then it was over. The president retreated to his quarters, ending the official schedule of his 100th day in office. We’re signing off too, and promise to wash our hands. Check out www.latimes.com for full coverage and analysis of the news conference.
