Opinion: Obama reaffirms pro-choice support with abortion funds

President Obama stood firmly by his support for a woman’s right to an abortion and today reversed a Bush administration ban on giving federal funds to international groups that perform, or provide information on, abortions.

Obama signed the ‘Mexico City policy’ to little media fanfare this afternoon, as reported by the Associated Press.

This comes just a day after a crowd of anti-abortion activists convened on the National Mall for the anniversary of the landmark 1973 Supreme Court decision in Roe vs. Wade.

In a statement Thursday, Obama said Roe vs. Wade ‘not only protects women’s health and reproductive freedom, but stands for a broader principle: that government should not intrude on our most private family matters.’
