In the Eagle Rock community of Los Angeles, Occidental College celebrated its most famous former student today. Here’s what L.A. Now has to say about the festivities:

Barack Obama spent just two years as an undergraduate at Occidental College before transferring, but that did not dim the school’s proud embrace of him this morning as an alumnus who traveled in 30 years from 1600 Campus Road, the school’s address, to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. More than 400 Occidental students packed the flag-festooned Keck Theater to watch the inauguration on a big screen, cheer the new president’s speech and contemplate with some wonder the fact that he was once one of them.
