Opinion: Rum Raisin to the rescue for Edwards?

Manchester, N.H. -- The temperature in much of New Hampshire today may not get into the double digits. A warming trend is expected as presidential candidates flock into the state following the Iowa caucuses but still, it’s hardly what one would call ice cream weather.

Don’t tell that to the John Edwards camp, though.

Aides to the Democratic presidential hopeful have announced that several prominent, progressive Vermonters will cross the border between the two states on Saturday to tout Edwards -- a group that includes Ben Cohen, co-founder of Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream. And as part of their efforts, Cohen and the others will be passing out samples of the product that made him famous (and rich).

We’re skeptical in general about what they’ll be able to accomplish -- relations between Vermont and New Hampshire are notoriously prickly. But we do think hot chocolate would better serve their purposes.
