John McCain has lived an eventful life, to put it mildly. But when asked by the Associated Press to name his most prized possession, his answer demonstrates the simple power exerted by sports (especially for an American male who grew up when baseball stars relied solely on natural skills to perform amazing feats).

There was another article that appeared today that McCain might want to paste into a scrapbook. As part of a multi-story package on him in the Washington Post, the usually acerbic Dana Milbank spent some time on the road with the Republican presidential contender. The writer’s bottom-line take: ‘McCain may never become president, but he’ll end this race with something many rivals have left on the campaign trail: dignity.’
