In nothing resembling a coincidence, while some Republican candidates are laying off staff and focusing only on New Hampshire, Iowa and South Carolina, the Rudy Giuliani camp is busily announcing teams, staff and plans for other states. These are, of course, carefully orchestrated by the communications team to keep the candidate in the news, create a sense of momentum (and then inevitability) and, if it makes a contrast with another faltering candidate, that’s a bonus.

Later today the Giuliani campaign will announce its California leadership team and its state campaign headquarters in Glendale at 300 West Glenoaks Blvd.

The chair, as previously known, is Bill Simon, unsuccessful gubernatorial candidate, and Giuliani co-worker and friend from his federal prosecutor days.

The rest of the team is a mix of Republican moderates and conservatives. They include six members of Congress (Mary Bono, David Dreier, Jerry Lewis, Devin Nunes, George Radanovich and Ed Royce), four Assembly members (Sharon Runner, Ted Gaines, Greg Aghazarian and Cameron Smyth), L.A. County Supervisors Mike Antonovich and Don Knabe and former state party chairs Robert Naylor, Frank Visco and John Herrington.

Also Chuck Poochigian, Michelle Steel and Dr. Joel Strom.
