A year ago, Woodland Hills El Camino Real showed it might be a City Section title contender with its performance in the Fairfax summer tourney, and the Conquistadores are playing well again in the same tournament. They knocked off a good Chino Hills team, 91-66, on Wednesday night to advance to Friday’s semifinals.

Julian Richardson had 22 points and Kelton Conway 18. But the key matchup was Evan Wardlow playing defense against Chino Hills point guard Lonzo Ball.

Thursday’s quarterfinal matchups have Mater Dei playing Fairfax at 7 p.m. and Long Beach Poly facing Orange Lutheran at 8:30 p.m.
