Boys’ basketball: El Camino Real, Mater Dei advance to final at Fairfax

Demonstrating that it intends to be one of the elite teams in Southern California next season, Woodland Hills El Camino Real came away with an 81-77 overtime victory over Inland Empire power Corona Centennial in a semifinal game of the Fairfax tournament on Friday night.

El Camino Real will play Mater Dei in Saturday’s championship game. Mater Dei defeated Long Beach Poly, 60-54.

Kelton Conway, one of the most improved players in the San Fernando Valley this summer, scored 23 points to lead the Conquistadores. Maleke Haynes had 21 points and Evan Wardlow 15.

Khalil Ahmad scored 26 points and Sedrick Barefield had 19 for Centennial.

In other games, Trevor Stanback scored 22 points in Chaminade’s 65-59 win over La Canada.

Chino Hills defeated Loyola, 83-68. Lonzo Ball had 21 points for Chino HIlls. Thomas Welsh scored 30 poitns for Loyola.

Compton defeated Santa Monica, 81-62. Nu Williams had 24 for Santa Monica.

Alemany defeated Brentwood, 84-42. Crespi defeated Harvard-Westlake, 70-66, in overtime. DJ Ursery scored 22 points for Crespi. Derick Newton had 25 for Harvard-Westlake.
