A dominant running game in the second half propelled Long Beach Poly to a 28-7 victory over Clovis North in the CIF Division I regional bowl game at Veterans Stadium. They advance to Friday’s Division I bowl final at the Home Depot Center against Granite Bay.

The Jackrabbits relied on running the ball out of the wildcat formation in the second half to break open the game after a 7-7 halftime tie.

Gerard Wicks finished with 100 yards rushing and one touchdown. Manusamoa Lu’uga had 95 yards and one touchdown.

The Jackrabbits attempted 18 passes in the first half and only three in the second half, but they made their passes count. Twice on fourth down the Jackrabbits got touchdown receptions, one from John Smith and another from Brock Meckelborg.

It was Poly’s 11th consecutive victory since a 1-3 start.
