Baseball: Orange Lutheran, Agoura stay unbeaten in league

The Trinity and Marmonte leagues are among the toughest in Southern California baseball, so it’s a little surprising that this late in April, Orange Lutheran and Agoura are still unbeaten in their respective leagues.

Orange Lutheran improved to 9-0 in the Trinity League on Friday with a 6-3 win over Santa Margarita. Cody Nulph hit a home run and picked up the save. Tommy Bell had a two-run double. Orange Lutheran faces a two-game showdown with Mater Dei beginning Wednesday. Mater Dei defeated St. John Bosco, 7-4. Servite defeated JSerra, 5-3, in 10 innings.

Agoura is 8-0 in the Marmonte League after a 6-2 win over Calabasas. Jordan Shulman threw a complette game and Justin Cana had two hits and two RBIs.

Landon Poling’s RBI single in the eighth inning gave Thousand Oaks a 3-2 Marmonte win over Newbury Park. Bryce Moore’s RBI single in the top of the ninth gave Royal a 6-5 victory over Simi Valley.

In the Big VIII League, Riverside North (18-3, 8-0) pulled out an 11-10 win over Corona. Jack Johnson hit a two-run double with one out in the bottom of the seventh.

In the Century League, Anaheim Canyon upset Esperanza, 5-3. Cameron Baranek had three hits. In the South Coast League, Cristian Salina hit a three-run walk-off home run to give Capistrano Valley a 5-3 win over El Toro.

In the Foothill League, Avery Ortiz allowed three hits in 6 1/3 innings and Cody Bennett struck out Trey Williams with the bases loaded in the seventh as West Ranch defeated Valencia, 6-1. Josh Heinz had three hits and three RBIs. West Ranch is without ace JC Cloney, who has tendinitis in his left wrist. Hart stayed in first place with a 10-2 win over Canyon. Saugus defeated Golden Valley, 8-4.

Ty France had two RBIs in South Hills’ 2-0 win over Damien. Bishop Amat defeated St. Paul, 8-1.

In the Sunset League, Los Alamitos defeated Huntington Beach for the third time, 2-1. Fountain Valley defeated Edison, 1-0, in nine innings. In the Mission League, Harvard-Westlake defeated Chaminade, 10-6. Joe Corrigan hit a home run and had two hits. Crespi defeated St. Francis, 4-3. Morgan Grisham had two hits.

Sierra Canyon (15-4) defeated Pasadena Marshall, 12-2, in five innings. Brian Tucker, Evan Kantor and Sean Adler had two hits apiece. In the Channel League, San Marcos defeated Santa Barbara, 9-4. In the Tri-Valley League, Oaks Christian defeated Grace Brethren, 4-2. The Lions are 8-11 overall and 4-4 in league after forfeiting nine games because of an ineligible player.

Palm Desert defeated Palm Springs, 6-2. Brian Serven hit a home run and threw a scoreless seventh. Brooks Kriske struck out five and didn’t allow an earned run in six innings. Etiwanda defeated Upland, 2-1.
