If you want to know which team is the most likely to win a Southern Section football championship, it’s the Lompoc Braves. They’re 11-0 after beating Los Angeles Verbum Dei, 52-14, in a first-round game on Saturday of the Northwest Division playoffs.

Lavon Coleman had a 70-yard touchdown run, and Taylor Cornejo returned two punts for touchdowns. The Braves’ defense held Verbum Dei running back Anthony Charles to 17 yards rushing.

Lompoc does face a challenge on Friday, having to travel to Compton Centennial. That’s a long trip, but as long as the bus gets there in plenty of time, the Braves should be just fine.
