Baseball: Wallace Gonzalez signs with Astros

Outfielder Wallace Gonzalez from La Puente Bishop Amat has signed with the Houston Astros. He was a 29th-round draft pick.

Bishop Amat Coach Andy Nieto will be the coach for the West team in the Perfect Game All-American Classic, formerly the AFLAC all-star game, on Aug. 14 at PETCO Field in San Diego.

Local players selected include Rio Ruiz (Bishop Amat), Hunter Virant (Camarillo), Lucas Giolito (Harvard-Westlake), Max Fried (Montclair Prep), Tanner Rashier (Palm Desert), Daniel Robertson (Upland), C.J. Saylor (South Hills) and Trey Williams (Valencia).
