Girls' basketball: Rialto defeats Buena, 44-42, on buzzer beater

March 19, 2011 |  3:42 pm

Janae' Sharpe scored the winning basket on a one-step jumper in front of the free-throw line at the buzzer to lift Rialto to an incredible 44-42 victory over Buena in the Division II Southern California region finals Saturday at the Galen Center.

Sharpe scored the basket following an equally incredible in-bound pass from Brittani Walker, who lobbed the ball deep onto the Bulldogs' side of the court with 2.8 seconds left in regulation.

Sharpe also scored the winning basket at the buzzer during the Knights' 55-53 victory over Buena in the CIF Southern Section Division 2AA championship game.

Buena's Keani Albanez fouled out of the game after committing an offensive foul while driving to the basket with 2.8 seconds left.

Rialto will play Stockton St. Mary's in the state Division II championship game on Friday.
