February 24, 2011 | 10:14 am

In a shocking upset, Santa Monica defeated Long Beach Poly, ranked No. 2 in the nation, 57-56, in the Southern Section Division 1AA quarterfinals at Poly on Wednesday.

The game came down to the wire when the Vikings' Bianka Balthazar was fouled with 0.4 seconds left and the score tied at 56-56.

Balthazar missed her first free throw but made her second attempt, eliminating the former Division 1 champion.

Balthazar finished with 17 points for Santa Monica (22-8). Sheila Boykin had a game-high 19 points for Poly (25-3).

Santa Monica will play Santa Ana Mater Dei in a semifinal Tuesday at 4:45 p.m. at the Anaheim Convention Center.
