Boys' basketball: Taft puts on a show in 69-32 victory

January 21, 2011 |  9:26 pm

If Woodland Hills Taft plays like it did in the third quarter on Friday against Reseda Cleveland, there's no team in the City Section that will come close to the Toreadors.

Taft scored the first 20 points of the third quarter and held Reseda Cleveland scoreless for nearly six minutes in the quarter en route to a 69-32 West Valley League victory. Taft led, 31-20, at halftime and 57-25 after three quarters. A running clock was used at the five-minute mark of the fourth.

Stephen Maxwell scored 18 points for Taft (15-2, 3-0). Jaylen Bland had 14 points for Cleveland (9-9, 2-2).

Lake Balboa Birmingham defeated Woodland Hills El Camino Real, 86-84, in double overtime.

In the Western League, Fairfax defeated LACES, 66-53, with Oliver Mills scoring 18 points and Landon Drew getting 12 assists.

In the Trinity League, Santa Ana Mater Dei defeated Santa Margarita, 66-46. Freshman Stanley Johnson had 17 points and junior Xavier Johnson had 14 points.
