Cal State Northridge’s new baseball coach is Matt Curtis, who spent the last 10 years as an assistant at Fresno State.

I spoke with him Tuesday, and he’s excited about the recruiting base in the San Fernando Valley, Ventura County and neighboring areas. And he sounded like he wants to get to know the local high school coaches, which should help players get exposure and attention.

Northridge’s baseball program had started to recruit well locally until Mike Batesole left for Fresno State. Curtis seems to have some of Batesole’s skills. He has a big job ahead but seems determined.

‘There are some challenges with any job, but there’s lots of opportunities,’ he said.
