Jim Bonds, a former All-Southern Section quarterback at Newhall Hart and the football coach at St. Francis, was a much-beloved athlete at his alma mater. So understand how Hart fans must have been a little annoyed on Wednesday when Bonds’ son, James, a junior at Valencia, went three for four in the Vikings’ 7-5 win over Hart.

‘I sent him a dirty text when he was sitting on the Valencia side,’ Hart Athletic Director Mike Herrington said.

James is serving as a designated hitter while recovering from a knee injury.

‘He looked good swinging the bat,’ Herrington said.

The father could face repercussions at his 30-year high school reunion in 2016.
