Girls’ basketball: Bishop Amat upsets Santa Margarita

Arielle Wideman scored 17 points to lift fifth-seeded Bishop Amat (26-7) to a 58-48 victory over top-seeded Santa Margarita (27-7) in a Southern California Regional Division III semifinal at Santa Margarita.

After leading 24-22 at halftime, Bishop Amat opened the fourth quarter with an 8-2 run to take its biggest lead of the game at 47-35 with 4:30 left on the clock.

Despite being double-teamed, Santa Margarita’s Melissa Zornig scored 13 of her game-high 28 points in the fourth quarter.

Leticia Galarza had 15 points for Bishop Amat, and Gina Henderson added 14.

In the other Division III semifinal, Inglewood defeated Spring Valley Mount Miguel, 85-60. DeAjanae Scurry had 35 points, 15 rebounds and five steals for the Sentinels.

Inglewood and Bishop Amat will face off in the Regional final on March 20 at USC.

The two teams met in a Southern Section Division 3AA semifinal, and Inglewood won 63-48.
