After 39 years teaching at Newbury Park, former football Coach George Hurley is retiring effective the end of the school year. He’ll be missed.

Hurley was the school’s head coach from 1989-2007, and guided the Panthers to a 1993 Southern Section championship.

But more importantly, Hurley was Mr. Class. He treated everyone with respect and had great humor. He helped bring the passing game to Ventura County.

He’s set to receive a CIF Hall of Fame award and receive a Gold Life Pass for his contributions to CIF athletics.

He deserves many thanks.
