Warren Farlow, who started the Granada Hills Kennedy track program in 1971 and coached for more than 25 years, died on March 12 after a bout with cancer. He was 69.

Farlow grew up in Hollywood, ran track with his twin brother, Wayne, at Hollywood High and was a member of USC’s 1961 NCAA championship track and field team.

He helped build a top track program at Kennedy, winning a state girls’ title in 1980. In recent years, he served as a consultant with the Los Angeles Unified School District in dealing with work experience.

Farlow’s oldest son, Kevin, was a standout baseball player for the Golden Cougars, hitting the game-winning home run at Dodger Stadium in the 1985 City Section championship game.

Craig Raub, a longtime teacher and coach at Kennedy, said of Warren, ‘He would do things for people without being asked. He touched so many Kennedy students.’

He is survived by his wife, two sons, a daughter, brother and sister.

A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Northridge.
