In Division I, the Southern California regional semifinals on Saturday match four powerful teams ready to go at it.

Long Beach Poly (28-4) will face Westchester (29-3) at Los Angeles Roybal. Woodland Hills Taft (26-5) will take on host Santa Ana Mater Dei (31-1).

Making it even more intriguing is it’s City Section against Southern Section. City teams have had trouble getting respect in football when facing the Southern Section, but there’s no such slight in basketball. City teams have performed well.

And those who think Taft has no chance at Mater Dei might want to remember that last season, Fairfax was in a similar situation with seemingly no chance and beat the Monarchs.
