A year ago, Santa Clarita Golden Valley went 27-4. The Grizzlies are starting to pick up the intensity and the victories again, improving to 7-1 on Monday night while advancing to the semifinals of the San Fernando Valley Invitational with a 73-61 victory over Chatsworth Sierra Canyon.

There’s no doubt Golden Valley has one of the most talented players in the Santa Clarita Valley in 6-foot-8 senior Trevor Wiseman, who scored 16 points. I can’t wait until the Foothill League games when Wiseman goes against Valencia and junior guard Lonnie Jackson. That’s going to be a shootout.

Khatari Price led Golden Valley with 17 points and Taylor Statham added 16.

Sierra Canyon (5-2) received 19 points from sophomore Julian Brooks, who’s the younger brother of former Woodland Hills Taft and Sherman Oaks Notre Dame standout Pierce Brooks.

In other quarterfinals, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame received 23 points from freshman Jahmel Taylor to defeat Antelope Valley, 70-43. L.A. Jordan advanced to the semifinals with a 52-47 victory over Encino Crespi. Davian Wilson scored 22 points for Jordan. Burbank defeated Hart, 61-33.

In Tuesday’s semifinals at Kennedy, it will Golden Valley vs. Jordan at 6 p.m. and Notre Dame vs. Burbank at 7:30 p.m.
