A Hollywood High School football player was seriously injured Friday night during a freshman-sophomore game against West Adams Prep, said Sgt. Patrick Lynch, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Unified School District police.

UPDATE: The player was pronounced dead today at Childrens Hospital, said LAUSD spokeswoman Ellen Morgan.

West Adams Coach Brad Ratcliff said the player collapsed near the conclusion of the game at West Adams. Ratcliff said paramedics were called and the player was transported to a hospital. The game was halted with about two minutes left. Hollywood Coach Ceasar Sandoval said he could not comment when reached Friday night.
