Michael Williams of Woodland Hills Taft is becoming the focus of an intriguing recruiting battle. On Monday in the opening round of the Division I Southern California Regionals, he scored 30 points to help the Toreadors defeat Ventura, 68-55.

Taft Coach Derrick Taylor said there were seven schools that came to the game to take a look at Williams, a senior guard.

‘He’s the center of attention,’ Taylor said.

Taft played without starting forward DeSean Johnson, who is still recovering from a concussion suffered against Westchester. Taft will play host to Compton Dominguez Tuesday night.
