Boys’ basketball: Fairfax on verge of upset

Sixth-seeded Fairfax led third-seeded Mater Dei by as many as 13 points in the third quarter and still holds a 55-46 lead going into the fourth tonight in a Southern California Division I regional quarterfinal at Mater Dei.

The Lions are winning without big man Renardo Sidney doing much of anything except getting into foul trouble. He has five points and picked up his fourth foul right before the buzzer at the end of the third quarter.

Guard Jordan Weathers has made six three-pointers and has 20 points for Fairfax.
