UCLA opens the college baseball season this weekend at home against UC Davis, and four freshmen who were local high school standouts could be major contributors for the Bruins.

Gerrit Cole, an Orange Lutheran graduate, is expected to be in the Bruins’ starting rotation. Trevor Bauer, a Newhall Hart graduate, could be the team’s closer. Tyler Rahmatulla, a Santa Ana Mater Dei graduate, is expected to be the starting shortstop. And Steve Rodriguez, a St. John Bosco graduate, is the likely starting catcher.
