Nebraska Coach Bo Pelini and his older brother, Cornhuskers defensive coordinator Carl Pelini, were effusive in their praise of Corona Centennial quarterback Taylor Martinez during a home visit Monday night, according to Martinez’s father, Casey Martinez.

Carl Pelini called Martinez, Scout.com’s top-rated dual-threat quarterback on the West Coast, the Cornhuskers’ best ‘all-around’ recruit in 10 years, Casey Martinez said.

Bo Pelini spoke of the possibility of Taylor playing both ways, Casey Martinez said, with Taylor playing quarterback in certain packages if he were to start at safety. Of course, if Martinez were to start at quarterback, he would not play on defense.

Don’t count out that possibility. Martinez, The Times’ Glenn Davis Award winner as the top player in Southern California, was the most exciting high school quarterback I have seen since Matt Leinart of Mater Dei, and Leinart turned out OK on the college level.
