So long, City Championship and City Invitational. It was nice to know you. The City Section has joined the 21st century, getting rid of its archaic names and going to a new division format for championships in football, basketball and baseball.

From now on in football, there will be City Division I and Division II champions, along with a City Division III champion for eight-man.

In basketball, there will be City Division I and Division II champions, plus a City small schools champion.

In baseball, there will be Division I, II and III champions. Also approved in baseball is a revised seeding procedure, by which an RPI formula is used to help seed teams.

The City Interscholastic Athletic Committee approved allowing City cross-country runners to practice on Saturdays, like their Southern Section counterparts.
