Back in late June, I checked out a summer league game between Taft and Sylmar based on a tip I heard about DeAndre Daniels possibly suiting up for the Toreadors, although he played for Renaissance Academy as a junior. At the time, it was reported the 6-foot-8 prospect was considering a transfer.

But, if there’s one thing I’ve learned in my nine-plus years of covering preps in the Southland, it’s this: A kid can make an attempt to switch schools as Daniels has, according to the Daily News, but until the City Section office rules an athlete eligible to play, nothing is official. Plain and simple.

‘I’m happy that my son is at Taft right now,’’ said LeRon Daniels, DeAndre’s father. ‘I don’t have anything bad to say about Renaissance Academy, though we did have some hurdles to overcome there. That’s in the past though. I think DeAndre can develop his game at Taft and get to the next level in college.’’
