It’s hard to talk about the City Section championship and not talk about San Pedro or El Camino Real.

So it’s fitting today that the champion will be determined when those two storied programs -- and the top two seeded teams -- face each other at UCLA’s Easton Stadium at 4:15 p.m.

San Pedro (28-3) has won 14 section titles and ECR (28-7) has won 13. One or the other has won the last 20 championships.

It might be the end of an era for San Pedro as three four-year starters -- Taylor Petty, Perelini Koria and Korin Cuico -- play their final game together. Petty and Koria formed one of the greatest batteries in City history. Here’s a nice feature by Tony Ciniglio on the duo.

ECR counters with another of the region’s top pitchers, Krista Cobb (25-6), and shortstop Kellie Caplan, the last link to the 2005 Megan Miller team that beat San Pedro for the title. For more on ECR, check out Erik Boal’s advance.

The Invitational championship between Crenshaw and Lincoln precedes the marquee game at 2 p.m.
