Thousand Oaks’ Kyle McMorrow, the boys’ singles champion at the Ojai Invitational this spring, was unable to compete in his match against Troy’s Justin Thompson on Friday and was forced to withdraw from the Southern-Section Toyota individual championships at the Seal Beach Tennis Center.

McMorrow, a junior, was one of the favorites to win the boys’ singles title, but he suffered a shoulder injury and back spasms last week. Thompson will play Torsten Keil-Long of Claremont in the quarterfinals today at 1:50 p.m.

There were no other surprises in the round of 16. Some quarterfinal matches are about to begin. Semifinals and finals will be played beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday, also at the Seal Beach Tennis Center.
