When it comes to hitting a baseball, Andre Argaez put together a week at the plate the likes of which you may never read about again. No joke. He’s but 5’ 9,’ 170 lbs, yet when he gets hold of one this kid can really give it a ride.

The senior shortstop from Capistrano Valley Christian had eight consecutive hits--including four straight homers--and drove in 14 runs over a three-game span. In fact, Eagles’ Coach Clemente Bonilla, who signed with two major league teams, called it the most impressive display of hitting he’s ever witnessed.

‘I’ve never seen this kind of streak in all my years in the game,’ said Bonilla, a graduate of El Toro who went on to play at Southeast Missouri State. ‘Last year Andre batted over .550 with nine triples but he didn’t hit many home runs. He’s also turned into a heck of a fielder with a good backhand and good instincts.’

Argaez’ streak started April 4 with a two-run homer in his last at-bat against Whitney. In the Eagles’ next game against St. Margaret’s on Tuesday, Arguez singled his first two times up, hit a three-run homer in his third at-bat and topped off his day by slugging a grand slam. On Friday, Argaez feasted on St. Margaret’s pitching again, homering his first two times up and hitting an RBI single his third time up. The streak ended when Argaez lined out to third in his last at-bat.

The three-game tear raised Argaez’ batting average to .478 and his slugging percentage to a whopping .913 through 13 games. So far this season he has 22 hits, 18 runs, 23 RBIs, five homers, four walks and only three strikeouts in 46 at-bats. Argaez, the Eagles’ only senior starter, has signed with Biola.
