Some coaches are good. Some are good guys.

Patrick Brown is both.

Brown, the football coach at Brentwood, recently got a nice surprise when he learned he’d been named as a finalist for a prestigious award -- the Positive Coaching Alliance’s Double-Coach Award.

It’s awarded to a coach, who emphasizes life lessons as much as winning. And it was Brentwood Athletic Director Jeaney Garcia who nominated Brown for the award.

‘At Brentwood, we’re not putting winning in the forefront -- it’s life lessons we’re learning on the field,’ Brown said. ‘There are parallels between life and athletics.’

Brown’s football team has also won quite a bit. This season, the Eagles (12-2) reached the Northeast Division’s championship final, which they lost to St. Margaret’s.

Up next, a ceremony at Stanford on April 12 when the Double-Coach Award recipient will be announced.

Let’s root for Coach Brown.
