Boys’ Basketball: Here’s tonight’s big-game rundown

According to our in-house stats guru Eric Maddy, there are 141 boys’ basketball games, 119 boys’ soccer games, eight girl’s water polo matches and some divisional wrestling matches going on this afternoon/tonight. I guess that explains why I’ll be working the prep phones tonight in downtown -- hey, somebody’s got to help post the call-in highlights onto the web.

Besides, taking part in the non-stop ring-a-thon has prevented me from making a difficult decision regarding which basketball game I would blog from. Here’s a few SF Valley/North games I think would be well worth fighting Friday night traffic to see:

Mission Viejo at Thousand Oaks, 7:30 p.m. -- This one won’t be a walk in the park for the Lancers, but I think two Marmonte League games with Simi Valley has toughened them up. Look for standout-less Thousand Oaks to take this one.

Westlake at Harvard-Westlake, 7:30 p.m. -- This game could be really close, like last time, or it could be a Wolverine blowout. Renaldo Woolridge will be extremely difficult to stop, but if three-point Warrior Adam Kolodney gets hot, Harvard-Westlake better get a hand in his face or duck for cover. Still, I’d be shocked if the somewhat enigmatic Wolverines didn’t take this one.

Ventura at Glendora, 7:30 p.m. -- For finishing third in the Channel League, the Cougars lucked out getting Glendora in the first round. Jamestown (you know, James Staniland and Janes Ennis) shouldn’t have any problems getting past the Tartans, especially if they can keep Dominic Tiger-Cortes under control (doesn’t he sound like a 19th-century swordfighter). Of course, I’ve made a habit of overestimating the Cougars all season, so be sure to let me have it on the comment board if you disagree.

Oaks Christian at Ribet Academy, 7:30 p.m. -- Tyler McGrath vs. Krys Faber. It’s worth the traffic-logged trip down the I-5 to Eagle Rock to see these two square off even if I think the Lions are the favorite. Plus, you could always stop by Auntie Em’s for a cupcake if the bad drive gets you down.

Other potentially competitive games I’m too lazy to write about: Agoura at Loyola; Crespi at Long Beach Wilson; Leuzinger at San Marcos; Canyon Country Canyon at Cajon; West Ranch at Chaffey; Burroughs at Saugus. These games start at 7:30 p.m., too.

Here’s the entire playoff bracket in case you don’t care about these teams.
