We’ve already established (recently, in fact) that giraffe calves are cute -- sometimes alarmingly so.

There’s something about their mohawk hairstyles (a giraffe calf’s mohawk, in our opinion, is far superior in cuteness to a baby’s mohawk -- yeesh!) and knobby knees that makes baby giraffes downright irresistible, in our opinion. And the gangliness! Don’t even get us started on the gangliness!

It’s no surprise, then, that this giraffe calf, a female born late last month at Germany’s Hannover Adventure Zoo, is pretty precious. But we think the photo above is a cute slam-dunk, thanks in large part to the gentle lick being bestowed on the calf by mother Shahni. How can you beat that?

Shahni and her baby are Rothschild giraffes, members of an endangered species sometimes referred to as Ugandan giraffes or Baringo giraffes. The baby is the 50th giraffe to be born at the Hannover Adventure Zoo. We hope she gets a special giraffe cake for that.
